Small Business SEO Services That Fit Your Budget
Most small business owners hear the same thing about SEO: it costs thousands a month, and nobody can tell you exactly what you get. It does not have to work that way. Torplix's small business SEO services start at $449 a month, with no setup fee and no long contract, and you see what we do every month.
We help local businesses and small online shops show up when customers search for what they sell. That means Google Search, the map results, and the pages that turn a visit into a call or an enquiry. Below you will find what is included, what it costs, how long it takes, how we compare with other options, and who should wait before buying SEO at all.
What Our Small Business SEO Services Include
Small business SEO is the work of making your business easier to find in search, and easier to choose once people find it. For most small businesses that means a mix of local SEO, fixes to your own website, and steady content. We do all three, and we match the mix to what your business actually needs. Here is what we cover.
Local SEO and your Google Business ProfileProfile setup, upkeep, reviews and local visibility.
If you serve customers in a town, a city or a service area, your Google Business Profile matters as much as your website. We set it up or clean it up, then keep it accurate: categories, services, opening hours, photos, and the questions customers ask. We also help you get more reviews and reply to them properly.
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. In its own words, relevance is how well a profile matches what someone is searching for, distance is how far each business is from the person searching, and prominence is how well known a business is. You can't change where your customers are, but you can improve the other two. Google's local ranking guidance is also clear that "there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google." That is why we spend your money on the work that does move those factors.
On-page SEO for the pages that earn you moneyTitles, headings and wording on your key pages.
We start with the pages that bring in enquiries or sales, such as your homepage, your main service or product pages, and your contact page. For each one we check the title, the headings, the wording, the internal links and the calls to action. The aim is a page that clearly says what you do, where you do it and why someone should pick you, in the words your customers use when they search.
Technical SEO fixesSlow pages, broken links and crawl problems.
Technical problems quietly hold sites back. We look for pages Google can't reach, slow pages on mobile, broken links, duplicate pages, missing titles and errors in how the site is set up. We fix what is within reach of the site, and give you a clear list of anything that needs your web developer. If your site is built in WordPress, most of this can be handled directly.
Content that matches what customers searchNew pages built around real customer searches.
A page can only rank for what it talks about. We find the questions and searches your customers use, then plan new pages or articles around them. Each piece is written to help a real person decide, not to stuff in keywords. On the Growth plan, we publish new content every month.
Local links and citationsConsistent listings and relevant local mentions.
Google looks at how well known a business is, and mentions of your business across the web are part of that. We make sure your name, address and phone number are consistent across the directories that matter, and we look for relevant local sources that would genuinely link to you. We don't buy links in bulk. Google's own advice on hiring an SEO warns against "link popularity schemes," and we agree.
Reporting you can readA short monthly report in plain language.
Each month you get a short report in plain language. It shows what we did, what moved, and what we plan next. We track the things that matter to a small business: calls, form enquiries, direction requests, and where your visits come from. We don't fill the report with charts that look good and mean nothing.
Small Business SEO Pricing
SEO costs vary widely, and it is hard to know what is fair when every agency hides its prices. Here is what published sources say, and then what we charge.
What the market charges
WebFX's SEO pricing guide gives these monthly retainer ranges by business size:
| Business size | Typical monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Startup or micro business | $500 to $1,500 |
| Small business | $1,500 to $3,500 |
| Mid-sized business | $1,500 to $10,000 |
The same guide lists hourly SEO consultants at $75 to $200 per hour, and project-based work at $500 to $5,000 per project. Keep in mind that WebFX is an agency describing its own market, so treat these numbers as a guide and not as a fixed rate.
Lower-cost options exist too. Third Marble Marketing publishes plans from $499 to $3,499 a month, and Boostability lists a Local Search Starter plan at $299 to $499 a month. We compare these further down.
What drives the price
Four things move the price of small business SEO more than anything else:
How many competitors you have. Ranking against 10 local businesses takes less work than ranking against 100. Third Marble, for example, sizes its basic plan for businesses with under 30 local competitors.
How many locations or services you want to rank for. Each new location or service usually needs its own page and its own profile.
The state of your website. A clean site needs light fixes. A slow or broken site needs more work first.
How much new content you need. Writing new pages every month costs more than tuning the pages you already have.
Torplix small business SEO pricing
We publish our prices so you don't have to book a call to find out the range. Our plans are month to month, with no setup fee, and you can scale up, pause or cancel when you need to. Our pricing sits under what the sources above show for small businesses, because we would rather you get a fair price than a padded one.

Who Small Business SEO Works For (And Who Should Wait)
SEO is not the right first step for every business. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you something that won't pay off yet.
Small business SEO works well if
- You serve customers in a town, city or service area, such as a trade, clinic, salon, restaurant, legal or accounting practice.
- You run a small online shop or service business where people already search for what you sell.
- You have a working website with a clear way to contact you or buy.
- You can answer calls and enquiries quickly. Ranking higher only helps if someone picks up.
- You are thinking in months, not days.
You may want to wait if
- You don't have a website yet. Get a basic site up first. We can help with that, then start SEO.
- You need customers this week. SEO takes time. Paid ads or direct outreach are faster. SEO is what you build alongside them.
- Nobody searches for what you sell. If there is no search demand, SEO has little to work with. We can check this during the audit.
- Your offer or pricing is not settled. More visitors won't fix a business that is still changing.
If you fall into the second group, we will tell you after the audit. It costs you nothing to find out.
SEO or paid ads?
This is the question most small business owners ask, and the honest answer is that they do different jobs. Paid ads can bring in enquiries as soon as they go live, and they stop when you stop paying. SEO takes longer to build, but the pages, profile and reputation you build keep working month after month without paying for each click.
For many small businesses the sensible mix is both: ads for quick enquiries while SEO builds up. If your budget only covers one, choose by how soon you need customers. If it is this month, start with ads. If you can wait a few months and want a steadier source, start with SEO. We can tell you which makes sense for your business during the free audit, even if the answer is not SEO.
How We Work
The process is the same for every client. The size of the work changes with the plan.
Free SEO audit
We look at your website, your Google Business Profile and the businesses you compete with. You get a written list of what to fix, in priority order.
Plan and quote
We recommend a plan and put the price and scope in writing. If something changes later, we tell you before doing any extra work.
Setup and first fixes
We get access to your site, your Google Business Profile and your analytics, then fix the biggest problems first. The accounts stay in your name.
Ongoing work
Each month we improve pages, update your profile, handle citations and, on Growth, publish new content and do link outreach.
Monthly report
You get a plain report on what we did and what changed, and what comes next.
Review and adjust
Every few months we look at what is working and move effort to where it pays off.
How Long Small Business SEO Takes
Nobody can give you an exact date, and anyone who does is guessing. Google itself says in its SEO starter guide that "some changes might take effect in a few hours, others could take several months," and it suggests waiting a few weeks to see whether your work had an effect.
Providers give similar ranges. WebFX says SEO typically takes 3 to 6 months to show meaningful results, with larger gains possible within 12 months. Boostability says most of its clients see ranking movement in 3 to 6 months.
What that means in practice
In practice, here is what that means for a small business:
The first month
The groundwork: audit, profile cleanup, technical fixes and the first page improvements. You won't see big changes yet, but you can see the work.
Months 2 to 3
Local profile and page changes start to show up. Some businesses see early movement for lower-competition searches.
Months 3 to 6
This is when ranking and traffic changes usually become clear, based on the ranges above.
After 6 months
Content and local reputation start to add up, so the work gets easier to build on.
How Torplix Compares With Other Small Business SEO Options
Pages about small business SEO often include a list of providers. We think a list is useful, as long as it is honest. We publish this page, so we are one of the options. The prices below come from each provider's own page or from the source named, and were checked in October 2026. Prices change, so check the provider's page before you decide.
| Option | Listed pricing | Who it may suit |
|---|---|---|
| Torplix | $449 and $1,169 a month, month to month, no setup fee | Local and small online businesses that want clear prices and plain reports |
| Third Marble Marketing | $499, $1,299 and $3,499 a month, month to month | Businesses that want a tiered plan sized by competitors and revenue |
| Boostability | Listings from $49 a month, Local Search Starter $299 to $499, Professional Search $600 to $3,600 | Businesses that want a packaged program with several price steps |
| WebFX | Packages start at $3,000 a month, per its pricing page | Larger small businesses with a bigger budget and several services |
| Thryv | "Contact for pricing" on its own SEO list | Owners who want to ask for a quote and compare |
| DIY or a freelancer | Your time, or $75 to $200 per hour for hourly SEO help (WebFX's guide) | Owners with time to learn, or a business that needs a one-off fix |
A few notes on reading this table. Packaged plans are priced by size, so the right row depends on your competition and revenue. The cheapest plan is not always the best value, and the biggest agency is not always the best fit for a small budget. Whichever you pick, ask what the monthly work is, not only what the price is.
How to Choose a Small Business SEO Company
Lists of the best SEO companies are often written by the companies on them, so use them as a starting point and not as a verdict. A better test is how a provider answers plain questions.
Questions to ask
- What exactly will you do each month? You should get a list of tasks, not "SEO".
- Who owns my accounts and content? Your Google Business Profile, analytics and website should stay in your name.
- How will you report on results? Look for calls, enquiries and sales, not only rankings.
- Is there a long contract? Month to month is easier to trust than a 12 month lock-in.
- Can I speak to a past client? Google advises you to check an SEO's business references and ask past clients whether they got useful service and good results.
- What will you not do? A good provider can tell you what is outside the plan.
Red flags
- Guaranteed rankings. Google's guide to hiring an SEO says "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google" and warns against SEOs who claim a "special relationship" with Google.
- Cold emails out of the blue. The same guide advises caution with firms that email you unprompted.
- Secrecy. Google also says to be careful if a company is secretive or won't clearly explain what it intends to do.
- Bulk link buying. Cheap packages of links can do more harm than good.
- No prices anywhere. You should not need three sales calls to find out the range.
What you can check yourself before you hire
You don't need technical skills to run a quick check on any provider, including us. Search for your main service plus your town and see who shows up in the map results. Open your own Google Business Profile and check that the hours, phone number and services are right. Open your website on your phone and see how fast it loads and whether you can find the contact button. Then ask each provider about what they see on those three things. A provider who gives you specific answers has looked at your business. One who gives you a general pitch has not.
Why Work With Torplix
We would rather earn your trust with how we work than with big claims. Here is what you can check for yourself.
Prices you can see
Our plans start at $449 a month and we confirm everything in writing.
No setup fee or long contract
You stay because the work is useful, not because you are locked in.
A free audit first
You see what we find before you commit.
Your accounts stay yours
Your Google Business Profile, analytics and website belong to you.
No ranking promises
We tell you what we expect to improve and how we will measure it, and we don't promise a position on Google.
A direct line
The person who scopes your plan is part of the work, so questions get direct answers.
We also keep the work simple on purpose. A small business does not need a long list of services it will never use. It needs the right pages, a well-kept profile, steady content and a report that makes sense. That is what the plans above are built around.
This page sits under our wider SEO services, which cover the rest of what a growing site needs. If you run an online store, see our ecommerce SEO services as well.
Small Business SEO FAQs
How much do small business SEO services cost?
WebFX's pricing guide puts small business SEO at $1,500 to $3,500 a month and startups at $500 to $1,500 a month. Torplix small business SEO plans start at $449 a month, and the final price depends on your competition and how much work your site needs. We confirm it in writing after the free audit.
How long does small business SEO take to work?
Google says some changes take effect in hours and others take several months. WebFX and Boostability both point to about 3 to 6 months for meaningful movement. We tell you what to expect after the audit.
Can I do SEO myself?
Yes, and some owners do. Google's SEO starter guide is free and a good place to begin. Hiring help makes sense when you are short on time, or when you don't want to risk mistakes on a site that already brings in business.
What is the difference between local SEO and regular SEO?
Local SEO helps you show up for searches tied to a place, such as map results and "near me" searches, and it relies heavily on your Google Business Profile, reviews and local mentions. Regular SEO focuses on how your website's pages rank for searches in general. Most small businesses need both, and our plans cover both.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. Google says that no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, and we won't pretend otherwise. We guarantee the work we agree to do each month, and we report on it in plain language.
Is there a contract?
No long contract. Our plans are month to month and you can cancel when you need to. We recommend giving SEO at least a few months, because it takes time to show results.
How do I know if SEO is working?
Look at the things that bring you business, not only rankings. These include calls, form enquiries, requests for directions from your Google Business Profile, and the number of visits from search. Rankings are useful for spotting trends, but a business can rank well and still get no enquiries if the pages don't convince anyone. Your monthly report shows these numbers side by side, so you can see whether the work is paying off.
Is SEO worth it for a small business?
It depends on whether people search for what you sell, and whether you can handle the extra enquiries. If both are true, SEO is one of the few marketing channels where past work keeps paying off, because the pages and profile you build stay in place. If neither is true yet, it is better to wait, and we will tell you so after the audit.
Do I need a new website before starting SEO?
Not always. Many sites only need fixes and better pages. If your site is badly broken or can't be edited, we tell you after the audit, and we can help with a rebuild before starting SEO.
What do you need from me to get started?
Your website address is enough for the free audit. If you go ahead, we ask for access to your site, your Google Business Profile and your analytics, plus a short list of your main services and the areas you serve.
Will you work with my current web developer?
Yes. We give them a clear list of anything that needs a developer, and we handle the rest ourselves.
